Doug Fakkema's Bio:
"In September 1971, I walked into the Lane Humane Society (Eugene, Oregon) -- my first real job after graduating from San Jose State University in California. I worked in animal shelters 19 years, mostly as executive director. In July 1990 I began full-time teaching and consulting. In 1973, I taught my first euthanasia-by-injection workshop. Since then I've been fortunate to travel over a million air miles to teach several thousand workshops and seminars for animal care and control workers around the world. In 1987, I received the Rosemary Ames Award for"excellence in teaching at American Humane sponsored training programs and for outstanding promotion of a humane philosophy and objective". In 2008 I received the American Humane Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for “investing a career of time and talent to the betterment of the care and treatment of animals”. I also teach: Managing Compassion Stress, chemical immobilization and humane animal handling."
